About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselor to join our behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will provide counseling, support, and treatment plans to individuals struggling with substance use, mental health challenges, or co-occurring disorders. This role requires empathy, patience, and strong communication skills to help clients overcome challenges and achieve lasting recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine the needs of clients with substance use and behavioral disorders.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment and recovery plans.
- Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions, using evidence-based therapeutic methods.
- Educate clients and families on substance use, behavioral health issues, and recovery resources.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, social workers, and support services to ensure holistic client care.
- Monitor client progress, document sessions, and maintain accurate case records in compliance with regulations.
- Assist clients in crisis situations, including providing referrals for additional support services when necessary.
- Stay updated on current treatment approaches, best practices, and relevant laws/regulations.
- Support relapse prevention by equipping clients with coping strategies and long-term recovery tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor, Behavioral Health Counselor, or similar role.
- Knowledge of substance abuse treatment methods, behavioral therapy techniques, and recovery programs.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality laws, HIPAA regulations, and ethical counseling practices.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Empathetic and patient approach with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients.
- Certification/licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (state-specific requirements apply).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work.
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC).
- Experience in dual diagnosis treatment (substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders).
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and counseling software.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
